Youth Chorus Director (Part-Time)
Position Overview
We are seeking a passionate, creative, and dedicated Charlotte Master Chorale Youth Chorus Director to lead and grow a vibrant community-based youth chorus in Charlotte, North Carolina. This part-time role is ideal for an experienced choral musician who is enthusiastic about working with high-school aged singers, fostering a positive, inclusive musical environment, and shaping not only strong singers, but thoughtful, compassionate young adults.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and lead weekly rehearsals for youth chorus participants (ages 9th–12th grade)
- Select engaging, age-appropriate repertoire across diverse musical styles
- Teach healthy vocal technique, musicianship, and ensemble skills
- Prepare the chorus for performances, concerts, and community events
- Collaborate with staff, accompanists, and volunteers
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians and program leadership
- Support recruitment and retention of chorus members
- Foster an inclusive, supportive, and inspiring environment for all singers
- Encourage growth not only as musicians but as confident, compassionate young people
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Music, Music Education, Choral Conducting, or related field (or equivalent experience) required
- Master’s degree in Music preferred
- Experience working with high-school aged youth in a choral or educational setting
- Strong conducting, teaching, and organizational skills
- Ability to inspire and engage young singers of varying skill levels
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Piano skills preferred but not required
Schedule & Compensation
- Part-time position (approximately 8–10 hours per week); schedule includes weekly rehearsals and occasional performances/events
- Evening and/or occasional weekend availability expected
- Compensation commensurate with experience

The Charlotte Master Chorale is an auditioned chorus that performs an annual season of masterworks and contemporary works primarily in the Charlotte region. We are the resident chorus of the Charlotte Symphony, and operate as an independent, nonprofit performing arts organization.
