At the thresholds of life, music gives shape to what cannot be contained in words: joy that overwhelms, grief that transforms, and the profound mystery that connects them.
The Charlotte Master Chorale Main Chorus, led by Assistant Conductor Philip Biedenbender, presents a powerful pairing of Kim André Arnesen’s Magnificat and Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem. Framed as musical bookends of human experience, these choral works, accompanied by organ and chamber orchestra, move with striking emotional breadth, from radiant anticipation to searching intensity, from overwhelming joy to profound release.
In Arnesen’s Magnificat, celebration and awe unfold in sweeping, luminous waves: a mother’s voice transformed into music of expectation, wonder, and unfolding life. In Fauré’s Requiem, grief is fully voiced, rising with urgency and depth before opening into a sense of transcendence and peace.
Join us for a performance that juxtaposes the extremes of life: joy, loss, and everything in between.
